Success Stories
The Office of Business Advocacy started in January of 2011 as a direct initiative of Governor Susana Martinez and Economic Development Secretary-Designate Jon Barela. Since then, we have had numerous success stories and have resolved cases in many industry sectors in all regions of the state.
Here are just a few of our successes:
• A new plant in Chaparral experienced significant delays in their construction inspections, the Office of Business Advocacy was able to get the inspections expedited so construction could be completed and the business could open its doors, on schedule.
• A high-tech company in central New Mexico had to stop work on several projects and lay off over a dozen employees because of a tax incentive delay. The Office of Business Advocacy quickly got the company qualified for the tax incentive so work could continue and the company could bring back its employees.
• An advanced manufacturing company in Deming had an expensive delay because state inspectors were not sure how to classify one of the company's modular buildings. The Office of Business Advocacy was able to break the inspection logjam and allow manufacturing to continue, saving the company time and money by solving the work stoppage problem.
• A public works construction contractor in central New Mexico had his bidding permit revoked because of a misunderstanding on an annual permit application. Without this permit, the contractor nearly went out of business because he could not bid on public works construction jobs. The Office of Business Advocacy stepped in, the permit was granted, and the contractor was able to get back to work.
