Study the basic techniques to oral and maxillofacial surgery for pediatric and general dental assistants that assist their doctors in the operating room environment. Training covers using aseptic techniques such as: surgical scrubbing, gloving, gowning, creating a sterile field, instrument and supply set-up, sharps safety (e.g., needles and blades), electro-surgical safety, operating room fire safety, universal protocol/time out, latex allergy awareness, and malignant hyperthermia response. If requested, an assessment of your strengths will be provided to the hospital operating room supervisor. (Recommended eight hours)

Prepare for the New Mexico Teacher Competency Assessment. Through practice exercises in each area, you will optimize your competence in format, scope, content of the NMTA Teacher Competency Assessment, with test-taking strategies based on knowledge and experience for both elementary and secondary education. You will also explore: student development and learning, instruction and assessment, the learning environment, professional environment, and restricted and extended constructed responses.
Interested in welding? Learn the fundamentals of welding equipment safety, nomenclature, controls, setup, and operation. On completion, you will understand and be able to demonstrate the fundamental rules of: general welding shop safety; equipment safety; proper welding nomenclature; use oxyfuel welding and cutting equipment. You will understand and describe: the chemical reaction in oxyfuel flames; select proper welding filler metal(s); cut straight, angled and contour profiles; describe the effects of torch angle, flame, filler material size, lap, tee and butt joints on thin gauge mild steel; interpret the characteristics in welding with DCSP, DCRP and AC current, and welding speed on gas welds; and use the SMAW process to interpret the characteristics of common welding electrode categories to set up and operate SMAW equipment. On the final day of this 40 hour course GMAW (MIG) welding will be covered. (40 hours)

The Venture Acceleration Fund of Los Alamos National Security LLC is accepting applications for the 2012 calendar year. Companies selected in the competition will receive up to $100,000 each to commercialize technology and take it to market faster.
Companies located in the Northern New Mexico counties of Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Sandoval, Rio Arriba, Taos, San Miguel and Mora are given preference for funding, as are projects associated with LANL technology or expertise, but any company in any part of the state can apply for help getting a tech-based product, including computer software or an Internet application, to market.
VAF applications will be accepted throughout 2012 and will be reviewed in 3 rounds corresponding to 3 application deadlines: Feb. 24, May 25 and Aug. 25. Â One award will be made for each round.

Prepare for the state Journey-level Boiler Operations and Components license examination. After completion of this course, you will be able to identify the principles of Low- and High-pressure boiler operation and types of boilers. Topics include: boiler theory and safety valves, feed water systems and combustion systems, water treatment, plant operation, and general safety, and local and state codes and standards are reviewed. A calculator and the current Steingressâs Low Pressure and High Pressure Boilers textbooks are required. Prerequisites: plumbing and mechanical experience and six months operating experience on the types of boilers you will be licensed on.
